The National in-line skate series was the first ever series of aggressive inline skating competitions. It was all started in 1994 by Rick Stark and Mark Billik and went on to inspire the X games, which is seen as one of the biggest driving forces for rollerblading’s growth and catapulting it into the mainstream. NISS was the spark that kicked the rollerblading industry off, it was shown on shown on ESPN 2 and had a $150,000 sponsorship deal with Taco Bell. Through this, you had the start of the American Skate Association and the world rolling series.Carlos Bernal dropped his new skating video called Animal and it’s full of big tricks. A lot of people often ask where the big stunts and hammers went from Rollerblading, but Carlos has always been skating this way.The video has received a lot of praise, making me wonder where people just not aware of his previous videos, or has there been a sudden rise of back to Blader’s who come from a certain era? Is there a bit of fatigue with the current trends in rollerblading? In the last 12 months we’ve seen more skaters moving towards higher amplitude tricks, is there a little changing in the tides and will it continue?Ilia Savosin, Roces skater is somewhat of a divisive figure within rollerblading. He knows how to create engagement and get people talking although a lot of the time it’s not always positive. There is an expectation for his rollerbladings videos to be a certain way, but this latest one was a little surprising, although not totally out of character. He referenced a well-known short comedy video almost shot for shot and has also apparently done a worlds first for inline skatingEncouragingly, there is been another handful of edits from potential future stars of rollerblading.00:00 Rollerblading news00:41 DJ King Returns – Future star of inline skating01:21 John Bolino rolling with the flow02:59 Alex Broskow painting 03:42 Ilia Savosin Fire skate promo – worlds first?
