The life of a professional rollerblader in the 1990s was not too dissimilar to being in a moderately successful signed indie band. Skaters travelled to a different city every week, sometimes a different country, performed to sizeable crowds and even obtained a certain level of recognisability both within and outwith the rapidly expanding sport. Those who were hardworking and clever enough even managed to make a decent amount of money if they learned how to take advantage of the bountiful business opportunities there were for skaters who knew how to network and market themselves. This is virtually impossible now as there are very few commercial opportunities for skaters at the moment, no matter how talented and business savvy they may be, but one person who seized the opportunity back in his blading prime was vert and street double threat Scott Crawford. The Australian rode the wave of blading’s success for the better part of a decade thanks to his strong work ethic and ability to promote himself as a marketable commodity.
