What happened to rollerblading? From being the fastest growing participation in sport in the late 90s to disappearing, almost out of existence. I talk about rollerblading’s need to let go of the past in order to grow and an important, uncomfortable truth the VICE documentary missed. The division that was caused within inline skating that pushed people away from it and stopped people wanting to start in the first place.Vice sports, the sister channel of Vice magazine recently put out a documentary exploring the subject talking to prominent inline skating figures like Billy O’Neill, Arlo Eisenberg, Shannon Rogers and Angie Walton (Daily Bread Magazine). They also had Big Brother Magazine creator, Dave Carney in there for his perspective on things.The documentary is good, it keeps it light and I think it’s tailored to an audience that’s not exclusively rollerbladers.
