Brighton Skate Space: Proposal for a skater-only space for the rollerskate and inline community.

This video was made to highlight the need for a skate-only space in Brighton.PLEASE comment on this video (if you are a skater or non-skater) as we hope to show the amount of support both local, national and international for such a venue in Brighton. Tell us why you need this space, how skating improves your mental and physical health, if you’d travel to use this space or how such a space contributes to your city.Roller skaters and inline skaters have to date been using public spaces such as the seafront promenade, cycle lanes and multi-purpose sports courts because there is no dedicated skating area in the city. This situation is increasing risks of collision and injury and a safe solution is to separate different sports in different areas.Brighton has a rich heritage of 150 years of roller skating, started by the Victorians in the late 1800s. We think it is now time to revive this historical provision and have roller sports once again accomodated on Brighton seafront for all to enjoy.The global boom in both roller and inline skating since the pandemic means there are even more skaters in Brighton than ever before. Skating is no longer a minority sport and has regular participants aged 4 to 74 years old.With multiple new sporting and seafront development plans in process, we think Brighton would greatly benefit from such a space.
