Grab your FREE Beginner Starter Pack https://skatefresh.com/freebie-beginner/The Heel Brake Stop is by far the easiest and most effective beginner stopping method on inline skates and rollerblades, even though it is not very popular with the wider skating “scene” or community. Don’t let others convince you that the Heel Brake method doesn’t work or that other methods are better. This is the biggest myth in the skating world and unfortunately too many beginner skaters believe this and put themselves at risk by removing their brakes. After 25 years of teaching beginner skaters worldwide, we at Skatefresh can confirm that no other stopping method is easier to learn or works as well as the Heel Brake stop. We’ve observed that beginner skaters who learn to rollerblade with their heel brake (and have learned how to use it correctly), progress faster than inline skating beginners who decided to remove their brake. This is because the other stopping methods are more difficult to master, so these skaters were more likely to feel unconfident for longer and suffer downhill falls and injuries as a consequence of not having a reliable stopping method. One of the heel brake’s advantages is that it can become viable on downhill slopes MUCH quicker than any of the other stopping methods. In this video the additional Heel Stop 2 method is demonstrated for its’ efficiency (and looks pretty cool). From the normal heel brake method the back skate is flipped up onto the front toe wheel and stability is maintained by pointing that foot inside the skate. The Toe Roll position is a great pre-Heel stop 2 position to practice to help you get this additional version.Don’t let your safety be compromised by skaters who’ve never used a heel brake in their lives.
