Exposing ONE Rollerblading Magazine. Are They Out of Touch and Why Jeff Dalnas Doesn’t Like Me
from Tom Moyse on 11 Mar 2025
ONE Blade Magazine for rollerblading was started in 2006, under controversial circumstances. They came from ashes of Daily Bread Magazine, Rollerblading’s bible, while it was still warm. Theyve had some great years, releasing 27 print issues in 19 years – managing just over one a year. But as the world turned its focus digital, it seemed like they didnt keep up while other rollerblading media adapted to it, or were simply birthed from the times. People started to see ONE as irrelevant. He won more competitions, he won bigger competitions, including FISE and the World Skate Games and beat better opposition, including Jeff Dalnas twice. The award win came at the cost of the integrity of all the other awards. It becomes even more revealing when it look at it closer, which we will do in this video. There was then a Times Square billboard for their rollerblader or the year, a month after the results but nothing for the female skater of the year. The language they are using to describe the event is crafty. For example, they mentioned that Times Square is a very busy location in America, maybe even one of the busiest, which i’d guess it was – but when you look into it, their ad ran at possibly the quietest time of day and month of year you could ever be there. Once you scratch the surface if seems they are trying to paint a very different picture to what the reality was. The advert doesn’t seem to serve much purpose beyond boosting their egos.Thirdly there was an article taking a swipe at the community funded prize pot for skater of the year. This come after they implied other awards were imitators but apparently the article was just to highlight what they thought were better options. In my opinion they are completely overlooking the effect a prize pot has and possibly havent been seeing all the discussion around the positives. ONE mag are free to do what they want. There shouldn’t be just one voice or media outlet in rollerblading. The community will decide which is more relevant and more valuable when it comes to awards.00:00 One Blade Magazine 01:10 The problem with One Blade Awards 202401:47 How did Jeff Dallas beat Julien Cudot?02:26 World Skate Games – Julien Cudot wins03:11 One magazine voters failed them03:48 Ignoring Substance 04:31 A win at the loss of credibility05:07 Rollerblading on a Times Square billboard – One mag is irrelevant 06:15 Does Chihiro Azuma, female rollerblader of the year get a prize?07:01 They played the ad when Times Square was Quietest08:38 Rollerblading seen by no-one – Did anyone see the advert?09:23 They made a t-shirt!10:21 creating life long inline skaters?11:12 Getting a billboard in Times Square is easy and common12:34 Its not the first time rollerblading was shown there, that week14:05 What was the real purpose of the billboard? 14:55 Who is the real inline skater of the year 16:23 Changing the landscape of rollerblading17:37 One mag think a prize pot is a bad idea?19:06 They contradict themselves 20:15 the benefits of a prize pot for skater of the year22:05 Why Jeff Dallas doesnt like meSourcesWho Is The REAL Skater Of The Year? https://youtu.be/FY9h0V7Tawo?si=eKxOnhpGmotPkYYVJump Street Podcast Episode 71 with Angie Walton https://www.youtube.com/live/wKsigJJCkd0?si=C6GqTkXgf-aQ5nYnhttps://www.oneblademag.com/spotlight/one-blade-awards-2024/
