What’s the best way to stop on inline skates & rollerblades? The Powerslide from forwards entry. (SkatefreshAsha)

SkatefreshAshaWhat’s the best way to stop on inline skates & rollerblades? The Powerslide from forwards entry.
from SkatefreshAsha on 27 Nov 2023

Most skaters think the Powerslide isn’t a viable stopping option for them, because it looks too difficult or because you think you can’t do the transition from forwards fast enough for it to be useful in real life.If that was true then hundreds of Skatefresh students wouldn’t have learned the Powerslide successfully. There are 4 options available to you in terms of transitioning your favourite way and sliding your favourite leg. The Skatefresh “Powerslide 4 Ways” training outlines, demos and explains these 4 options with clear step-by-step instructions. Once you’ve found your combo you can then focus on perfecting it, getting your mini, slow speed slide and then building up your speed over time, very, very slowly.I wouldn’t skate as fast as I do, in traffic or down slopes without this forwards entry to Powerslide in my repertoire and many skaters have reported that “it’s a game changer.”Check out the Stops & Slides Online class series;https://skatefresh.com/stops-slides/Who is Asha Skatefresh? Q&A: How to stop on downhill slopes on inline skates & rollerblades. Slopes training tutorial (SkatefreshAsha)

SkatefreshAshaQ&A: How to stop on downhill slopes on inline skates & rollerblades. Slopes training tutorial
from SkatefreshAsha on 26 Nov 2023

This question from Barry Reynolds is possibly the most important issue facing inline skaters; how to control speed and come to a complete stop on downhill slopes. It’s not an easy thing to do and demands that you have at least 1 good, fluent stopping method on the flat (that already stops you from your highest speeds). Only then are you ready for slopes training practice. The Powerslide is by far the most effective stopping method (other than the Heel Brake of course) for slopes as it allows for accurate stopping and will not strain your muscles as the T-stop would. The Powerslide is achievable if learned correctly (even from a forwards transition entry), but it will take several months of conscious practice to build up the speed of entry so it’s useful in real life situations.Slopes should be avoided until you absolutely know that your methods are trustable, otherwise you are taking serious risks. Many falls and accidents happen when skaters cannot stop on slopes, so be mindful of your skill level and stay on flat surfaces while working on learning and improving your stopping methods. Nothing is more important than this as a skater. The Skatefresh Method shows you how to build all the foundation skills you need to accomplish each skill in turn, ideally BEFORE you then attempt the skill (and possibly fail). What if you learned new skills in this progressive way? You’d suffer less frustration and achieve noticeable improvements every time you skate. This makes the whole experience much more fun, safe (fewer fails & falls) and effective.Do you learn new skills by just trying to do them over and over? How’s that working out for you? Let me know in the comments.Check out the full Powerslide lesson from the Stops & Slides series here;https://skatefresh.com/stops-slides/Who is Asha Skatefresh? How to inline skate for fitness & distance correctly, without making the common beginner mistakes (SkatefreshAsha)

SkatefreshAshaHow to inline skate for fitness & distance correctly, without making the common beginner mistakes
from SkatefreshAsha on 24 Nov 2023

Regardless of your level or how long you’ve been skating, making sure your normal skating stride is correct will bring you many benefits. Avoiding the slow-onset injuries that can happen if bad habits form, particularly prolonged skating on an inside edge pronation (on one or both feet) should be a priority for every skater. There is a lot of confusion regarding what constitutes a “correct stride” and most beginner & intermediate skaters don’t even realise they’re making serious mistakes that will only become more compounded over time.V-ing in the pizza shape is correct for complete beginners just getting started or for whenever you need to accelerate for a short distance. Acceleration doesn’t continue for long. As you improve, your set down position should evolve from the beginner Pizza V shape to a straight ahead set down when maintaining speed and not accelerating. So many intermediate skaters are skating with the V position of beginners and this creates and prolongs the tendency to have a pronation. One problem causes the other! The Skatefresh How to Skate for Fitness online course series addresses these issues and teaches you to skate correctly, eradicate the V-ing set down, gain conscious edge control, gliding balance and increase your speed & efficiency, whatever your current ability level. The Skatefresh Method of progressive exercises will also build your strength and stamina while you perfect your technique. Don’t let bad habits ruin your skating or your joints. You can test 2-3 exercises from each course absolutely FREE.Click “Free Trial” next to the Trailer Video on each page for FREE access.FREE Beginner Stride Drills (Basic Stride)https://skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-for-fitness-beginner-level-full-course/FREE Intermediate Stride Drills (Fitness Stride)https://skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-for-fitness-intermediate-level-full-course/FREE Advanced Stride Drills (Double Push)https://skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-for-fitness-advanced-level-full-course/Who is Asha Skatefresh? Tutorial How to stop on inline skates with the T-stop without spinning out using 2 corrective drills (SkatefreshAsha)

SkatefreshAshaTutorial How to stop on inline skates with the T-stop without spinning out using 2 corrective drills
from SkatefreshAsha on 22 Nov 2023

This question from Ace Noir via Facebook reveals such a common problem. Spinning out of a T-stop is the frustrating effect of not having the correct technique in terms of weight distribution and conscious edge control. Incorrect technique is most commonly the cause of skills not working (and not lack of physical strength). In this video I show you the 2 main reasons that cause spinning and provide 2 useful drills to help you fix the problem. The Skatefresh Method shows you how to build all the foundation skills you need to accomplish each skill in turn, ideally BEFORE you then attempt the skill (and fail). What if you learned new skills in this progressive way? You’d suffer less frustration and achieve noticeable improvements every time you skate. How to inline skate on rough, outdoor, urban surfaces for beginner rollerbladers & roller skaters (SkatefreshAsha)

SkatefreshAshaHow to inline skate on rough, outdoor, urban surfaces for beginner rollerbladers & roller skaters
from SkatefreshAsha on 20 Nov 2023

In this video I show you the “hot coals” method of skating over rough urban surfaces like cobblestones, but this method works for all rough surfaces.By increasing your tempo and taking faster, shorter strides you avoid spending too long on each skate. Continuously changing skates quickly allows you to maintain your speed and even skate uphill on rough surfaces.Let me know in the comments if rough surfaces cause you problems and what other urban skating obstacles you need help with. Many thanks to Sara for her participation in this video and @cristianoattanasi6028 for filming.Who is Asha Skatefresh?
