Detroit’s Luke Naylor is on the come up. After having a standout clip in We Are Valo 6, and the ender part in recent crew video Rotation, he is making a name for himself as the torch-bearer of a scene that has produced Gary Murphy, Don Bambrick, JC Rowe and Brian Weis. In addition to some strong sections in recent years, he also regularly ends up on the podium at real street events and has walked away with top honours in the past. Luke talks about sponsorship, the various styles of skating he appreciates, his local scene, filming for a new part and more.

One That Got Away – Lewis Bowden (wheelsceneblading)

wheelscenebladingOne That Got Away – Lewis Bowden
from wheelsceneblading on 21 Apr 2021

In rollerblading we tend to focus on success or suffering. Videos have historically celebrated the victory of landing a trick or the horrible, and sometimes humorous, consequences of when it all goes terribly wrong. However, we rarely give any attention to the process of trying to land a trick and the various elements that sometimes make it unachievable.

Lewis Bowden and I recently went filming and he got into a battle with a relatively complicated line. Despite almost landing it on the first attempt, the next 30-plus tries resulted in fatigue, injury and the obstacle he was skating gradually getting more and more damaged, and ultimately he was unsuccessful.

Rather than let the footage go to waste, we thought it might be interesting to compile all the attempts and discuss the various elements which made getting the clip difficult. We also then got on to the topic of how blading is portrayed at large.

Been slacking for the past couple of weeks but Platform is back! For the latest episode we catch up with one of New York’s finest, Tim Adams! The former USD and BHC Wheels rider just dropped an excellent new section for Blader Union called Sinner, his first full street project in years, so we had to find out what inspired him to film another part.

Tim talks about growing up in Rochester, filming an insane amount of sections over the years, what cultivated his fast and interesting approach to skating, sponsorship, coming out as gay to the blading community, what he’s been doing with himself recently and much more.
