SkatefreshAshaHow to heal sharp knee pains during or after skating. Follow along yoga posture to build strength.
from SkatefreshAsha on 21 Jul 2021

This question came in from Paula Thomson on YouTube “How do I recover from lockdown weight gain and sharp pain in knees.”In this video I share with you some simply exercises which helped me heal a persistent knee injury 7 years ago. These are off skates movements that can be done by anyone, as I’ll show you different options you can choose depending on your current strength and flexibility. Doing these exercises regularly took away my knee pains and made me stronger in those non-skating muscles that were weak.I believe many people experience knee and join pains when they begin to skate because the muscular load of even basic skating is quite high and many people come to skating without much strength win their lower body muscles, particularly the gluten and core, but also the legs. This means for example the muscles above and below the knees have to suddenly do a huge amount of work they are not accustomed to (like weight bearing all the body’s weight on just one leg repeatedly)…..they begin to complain. The trick is to skate regularly and often and slowly build up the amount of time you skate for. Long infrequent skate sessions may well do you more harm than good. This exercise is from the Bikram Beginner Yoga series and is one of the movements that I hold responsible for healing my knee pains and keeping them away.If you’d like more off-skates movement guidance from me, check out the free 8 min Pre/Post skate Yoga class on this page and just click free trial.https://skatefresh.com/yoga-for-skaters/Who is Asha?
