SkatefreshAshaWhat’s the best stopping method for going down hills & slopes to control your speed & stop?
from SkatefreshAsha on 17 Apr 2023

Every skater who is skating outdoors needs to be very clear about which stopping methods they are learning and how good those methods are (on the flat). Only when a stopping method stops you from your medium-high speeds should you then try to descend some gentle slopes. Always begin slopes from the bottom and work up gradually over many descents, first just controlling your speed (so you do not accelerate) and later actually coming to a stop on the slope (to really test yourself). When you have that on a gentle slope then repeat the process on a slightly steeper slope, but be VERY careful which slopes you choose as you need to gradually go for steeper or longer hills and not to make things too difficult too quickly. Slopes are something you should treat with HUGE respect and continue to train on them regularly as your methods evolve and you improve, so your stops & slopes practice should develop to include more methods & combos and higher speeds.Need help with your stopping methods?
