How to inline skate for beginners: Don’t want to fall over backwards? Leaning forwards to ensure you don’t fall over backwards seems like a logical thing to do and yet this is precisely the stance that creates foot pains, lower back ache and tense, uncomfortable looking skating that is more likely to cause a fall. Leaning forwards almost always is accompanied by the butt going out beyond the heels and this places your weight in the back half of the skate. This is what creates the foot pains & cramps that many new skaters experience as their toes are “gripping” and tense trying to maintain balance with the weight near the heels. With the correct upright body position the weight falls into the front half of the feet so no gripping is necessary and the foot pains disappear. Your feet should not hurt when you skate.
